This membrane, manufactured by Icon Process Systems is a non-polar organophobic, hydrophilic membrane.  It operates in the ultrafiltration / nanofiltration regime of around 0.01 micron.

DUE TO ITS REVOLUTIONARY DESIGN THIS MEMBRANE CAN BE BACK FLUSHED AT A RATE OF 300 LITRES / H PER MEMBRANE AND WITH CLEANING CHEMICALS INTRODUCED INTO THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE MEMBRANE THROUGH THE PERMEATE LINE.

If the membrane is heavily fouled with oil and other organic materials, then a strong caustic solution should be introduced through the permeate line into the membrane. This can be achieved at a backwash feed rate of approximately 300 litres per hour per membrane, and this will evenly distribute the cleaning liquor through the membrane lifting heavy deposits from the surface. The addition of sodium hypochloride into the cleaning stream is extremely effective against bio growth and bio fouling.
